Our Senior Adult Ministry brings together various activities focused on spiritual growth, fellowship, and enjoyment! The “Second Cousins” group, named after a beloved former pastor Rev. Solon B. Cousins, gathers several times throughout the year for events like musical performances, ice cream socials, shared meals, guest presentations, and holiday parties. These gatherings happen both at the church and at various locations around town, but they all feature the same welcoming Christian community and plenty of good laughs!
Who can participate in our senior adult activities? While life stages vary for everyone, we welcome adults 55 and older to join our programming at Second Baptist Church.

Meet our Minister of Senior Adults and Congregational Care, Ben Brown
Ben Brown’s calling to ministry was shaped by meaningful formative experiences, including performing with a touring youth choir at retirement facilities during his youth. The personal connections he made while greeting residents after these concerts fostered a deep appreciation for intergenerational relationships that continues to influence his approach to ministry today.
After spending more than a decade serving churches in student ministry, Ben now channels his passion for meaningful connections into creating enriching experiences for senior adults while overseeing the care ministries at Second Baptist. His professional background includes clinical pastoral care in healthcare environments, and his current role emphasizes pastoral outreach, senior adult programming, and nurturing spiritual growth across age demographics.
Beyond his ministry work, Ben loves a cup of coffee, hanging out with family, snacking on peanut M&Ms, diving into Baptist history, and hitting the gym at the YMCA.

September 21 – Ben is preaching at Avery Point, 1000 Avery Point Way, Richmond, VA 23233, for their evening chapel service.
October 19 – Ben is preaching at Lakewood Vespers. This service runs from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Simms Center at Lakewood.
