Music on Wednesday Nights

“Growing in Grace” Music and Faith Development:

For preschoolers, the Tiny Tunes (3’s) & Cherub Choir (PreK) will learn more about God as they sing, play instruments, and participate in musical activities. During Faith Development, children will learn about God and our world through a story about animals, a movement activity, and a devotion. Tiny Tunes children should have their 3rd birthday before 9/30/24.

For elementary children, the Joyful Spirit Choir (Kg), Melody Makers Choir (1st & 2nd Gr), and Young Musicians Choir (3rd – 5th Gr) will take a “Joyful Journey in The Beatitudes” while learning songs and engaging activities to strengthen their knowledge about God. During Faith Development, children will participate in activities about The Beatitudes (Matthew 5:1-10) and learn how to apply these teachings of Jesus to their lives.

Children’s Chimes/Bells: We offer two instrumental ensembles for children in 1st – 5th. These groups learn the basics of ringing chimes/bells in a fun-filled environment. The ensembles perform a few times per year at children’s programs or in worship. It is important that participants are on time and committed to attending rehearsals each week. 1st & 2nd Grade Chime Choir (Mrs. Nancy Hartgrove, Director) 3rd – 5th Grade Handbell Choir (Rev. Taylor Vancil, Director)

Wee Praise: This 45-minute interactive gathering is for our youngest children. Each session, which takes place in room 248, includes music, movement, and faith-building fun led by Mrs. Emily Boddy. Please note that Wee Praise will not resume until September 11. 10 am & 5 pm: open to infants – preschoolers, with an adult. 6 pm: open to infants – 2 year olds, with an adult.

Wednesday Night Family Dinner

Join the 2BC Family for Dinner! Throughout the school year, join us for a weekly dinner in our Family Life Center. The Second Baptist loving community grows stronger as families fellowship and share a delicious meal before they head off to Choirs, Missions and Adult Bible Studies. Dinner starts at 5:30 p.m. $8 for adults (9 or older) $4 for children age 3-8. Kids under 3 are free (served in the kitchen). Click here for more information and to order dinner.

Worship Care

Loving childcare is provided for infants through Pre-K children during our 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. services on Sunday mornings.

We will have combined Worship Care classes during Worship hours (9:00a.m. & 11:00 a.m.).

Worship Care Volunteers

Everyone seeking to work with preschoolers, children, or youth must be involved in Safe at Second, the protection process of Second Baptist Church.  Each individual must complete the Safe at Second Protection Process form. If you would like to sign up to serve in weekly worship care, click here to connect with the staff.

Special Events

Family Dedication

The commitment of parents to partner with God and with the church in raising their children in a Christian home is a time for celebration.  Our Family Dedication Service is an opportunity for parents to publicly promise to seek God’s will for their children and to instruct them in the ways of the Lord, to teach them His Word, and to talk with them about faith in Jesus as Savior when they reach an age of spiritual understanding.  Family Dedication is not only a spiritual dedication of the family to grow the child within the ways of the Lord; it is also a commitment of the Family of Faith at Second Baptist to become lifelong partners with each family dedicated.  We commit to provide prayer support, assistance in Bible teaching and opportunities, facilities and people through which children can enter into a fullness of Christian faith.

Family Dedications are held in May and October. Prior to the Dedication Service parents are required to attend a Dedication Class. The class provides an opportunity for parents to understand what will occur at the service and how the church will partner with each family as they grow spiritually.

Missions Education

Through Mission Friends, children learn that God loves all people and that our church is at work in the world to help people with physical and spiritual needs. Hands on experiences help them learn that at any age they are able to serve God and to share the love of Jesus with others.
