Creative Learning Center is a ministry of Second Baptist Church.

CLC seeks to glorify God through teaching, loving, and supporting young children and their families.  We believe that each child is a unique creation of God, and our CLC staff members want to partner with parents to help children grow in every area of development.  We strive for excellence in all that we do, and it is our desire to provide an exceptional experience for all staff, children, and families at CLC.

Preschool

We believe that experiences in the first 5 years become the building blocks for school readiness – both from a skills perspective, as well as positive relationships with adults and peers.  We also believe that children learn best through developmentally appropriate activities and play.  Our teachers are trained to use a resource from Teaching Strategies® called “Objectives for Development & Learning:  Birth Through Kindergarten.”  This resource guides teachers to better understand how each child is developing along a continuum.  As teachers observe children in the classroom, they tailor the curriculum to meet each child’s individual needs.

CLC Preschool follows a school-year schedule, beginning the Tuesday following Labor Day and ending mid June.  In addition, we offer a theme-based camp experience during July and August for children 12 months through entering Kindergarten.  We follow the Henrico County Public Schools schedule for Winter Break and Spring Break.

We offer the following enrollment options:

  • Morning Preschool 9:00am-12:00 noon
  • Full-Day Preschool 7:45am-5:30pm

Classes Available (based on child’s age by September 30)

  • Toddlers – M-F, MWF, TTh
  • Twos – M-F, MWF, TTh
  • Threes – M-F, MWF
  • PreK Fours and PreK Fives – M-F

CLC Preschool is accredited through the National Accreditation Commission.

Kindergarten

We are excited to add a new Kindergarten class to our school for the 2021-2022 school year.  We pride ourselves in providing excellent instruction and care for children in our program, and our new Kindergarten class will be no exception.  CLC is able to offer smaller class sizes, which allows for more individualized instruction, as compared to other school settings.  CLC will provide a developmentally appropriate curriculum based on the Virginia Standards of Learning, and will provide opportunities for socialization through peer interaction.

This class is designed for children who are ready for Kindergarten curriculum.  We will utilize a balanced approach for teaching Reading and Math through whole group and small group instruction as well as providing opportunities to practice skills with hands-on materials independently.  Science and Social Studies will be taught using a thematic approach.  We will also utilize Handwriting Without Tears in our Kindergarten classroom to support fine motor development.  Children will receive report cards similar to the ones used for Kindergarten in Henrico County Public Schools every 9 weeks.

There are two enrollment options for our Kindergarten class.

  • The Kindergarten day will be 8:00am-2:00pm Monday through Friday, with drop off beginning at 7:30am.
  • There is also a full day option which will be 7:30am-5:30pm.

CLC Kindergarten follows a school-year schedule, beginning the Tuesday following Labor Day and ending mid June.  We also offer a theme-based camp experience during July and August.  We follow the Henrico County Public Schools schedule for Winter Break and Spring Break.

After School
