Children/Student Ministry Volunteer Training

Join us in the Youth space on April 8 & 9 from 6 pm-7 pm for volunteer training for those who work within children’s and student ministry. This training will discuss best practices for the safety of children and students in ministry. Our guest presenter, Jay Kieve, will lead training for the ministerial staff and present at two sessions in the youth space.

Jay Kieve is the Abuse Prevention and Response Advocate for the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. Kieve works as the Fellowship’s point person for connecting churches to resources for the prevention of clergy sexual abuse and clergy sexual misconduct. He also serves to connect gifted ministers and passionate congregations across the Fellowship.

Jay works alongside the Clergy Sexual Misconduct Task Force and CBF-partner GRACE (Godly Response to Abuse in the Christian Environment), supporting congregations seeking prevention training, developing abuse prevention policies, and establishing a culture that protects children and vulnerable adults from abuse. Additionally, Jay is available to support survivors of clergy sexual abuse, including receiving allegations and recommending church response.

A graduate of Duke Divinity School (M.Div. and Th.M.) and Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond (D.Min.), Jay was honored with BWIM’s Frankie Huff Granger Outstanding Mentor award in 2019. Jay enjoys sewing and hiking in his free time. He and his wife Melanie have been married for 30 years and have two adult children.
