Preaching 201: Texts, Contexts, and Theories of Preaching

The Second Baptist Church School of Preaching launched in early 2026 as a ministry to equip both laypersons and ordained ministers to preach the gospel with mind and spirit, precision and passion, insight and power.

Led by pastor and preaching scholar Dr. Noel Schoonmaker, the School of Preaching offers free in-person preaching courses at Second Baptist Church, 9614 River Road, Richmond, Virginia.

All are invited to join us in the fall of 2026 for a new course entitled Preaching 201: “Texts, Contexts, and Theories of Preaching.”

From September 16 through December 9, the class will convene each Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Room 246 (please note that class will not meet on Oct 28 or Nov 25). Opportunities to preach a sermon in class are available but not mandatory. Many attend simply to audit and learn.
