Recent Retiree Luncheon

Recent Retiree Luncheon

Join us on Thursday, March 12, at 12:00 noon as we host a Recent Retiree Luncheon.  It is for anyone who has retired in the last 12-18 months, or anyone who simply wants to feel unstuck in their retirement.

One of the most significant and life-altering events in a person’s life is their retirement.  In the book Aging: Growing Old in Church, Will Willimon notes the ways the church offers guidance for families with young children, encourages students in their transition to young adulthood, and counsels couples preparing for married life together—but the church often does not address the vocational change that is retirement. We want to celebrate you and your vocational accomplishments and help reframe the Christian life ahead of you. Retirement can mean retreat, removal, and regression, but it can also be an opportunity to live more fully in Christian discipleship.

Our special keynote speaker will be Dr. Bo Prosser.  Bo is one of Ben Brown’s ministry mentors and a “retirement failure”—he served churches and denominational groups for most of his ministry career and now serves as an Interim Pastor and clergy coach based in Youngsville, North Carolina.

There is no cost for this event. Both the retiree and spouse are invited.

If you would like to be added to the list, please contact Patty at 804-740-7101 or info@secondbaptistrva.org.
