On December 14th the WV Mission Team participated in it’s 5th Christmas Party in Caretta, WV.
The Christmas event is sponsored by BCPIA (Big Creek People in Action), our Summer Mission partner. So, at the end of the day here are the results of what was accomplished: we served 301 children at the three parties, 54 senior citizens and 31 Head Start children. Gifts for 301 gifts for mom and 301 gifts for dad were available for the children to take home and give their parents something for Christmas. We distributed 204 food boxes, gave away 360 turkeys and served a grand total of 726 meals to families and volunteers.
Second Baptist sent 10 member volunteers to the event and we worked hand in hand with 30 other volunteers from three South Carolina Baptist Churches who had driven from Columbia, SC. Our Secret Santa program was supported by approximately 200 members of our congregation, the GA’s and members of The Creative Learning Center, ALL who provided gifts to approximately 170 attending children, 10 children from New Beginnings (a local substance abuse recovery ministry) and 31 children at a local pre-school Head Start program. Once again the Prayer Shawl Ministry spent months knitting scarves and caps so that we could hand out approximately 100 sets to the little children. The continuing generosity of the congregation allowed us to provide 80 $25 gift cards to the local grocery store which we distributed as our day moved along. All in all we had a busy and blessed day working in the trenches for the three Christmas dinner seatings. Without the kind generosity of our congregation none of this would have been possible. Thank you Second Baptist Family!
