Boy Scout Troop 702
Second Baptist’s own Boy Scout Troop 702 provides a great way for boy ages 11-17 to develop character and leadership skills, promote personal fitness, and become good citizens combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun.
Currently we have around 45 scouts, meeting on Tuesday nights from 7:30-8:45 pm in Room 201 of the Education Building, with monthly camping trips–and often other fun activities as well!
Since its inception in 1993, Troop 702 has produced over 60 Eagle Scouts, and many more are expected to earn Scouting’s highest award.
What Is Boy Scouting?
The Boy Scouts of America was incorporated to provide a program for community organizations that offers effective character, citizenship, and personal fitness training for youth.
Specifically, the BSA endeavors to develop American citizens who are physically, mentally, and emotionally fit; have a high degree of self-reliance as evidenced in such qualities as initiative, courage, and resourcefulness; have personal values based on religious concepts; have the desire and skills to help others; understand the principles of the American social, economic, and governmental systems; are knowledgeable about and take pride in their American heritage and understand our nation’s role in the world; have a keen respect for the basic rights of all people; and are prepared to participate in and give leadership to American society.
“Nuts for Scouting” Fundraiser
Troop 702 conducts an annual fundraiser with Virginia Diner! Check back in the Fall of 2015 for more information!
A percentage of each sale goes to help scouts with Eagle Scout Projects, annual dues, and paying for summer camp and adventure camps like Philmont! Purchases also enable the troop to buy tents and other camping equipment.
Thank you for your support of Troop 702!
