C.L.U.E. Camp

C.L.U.E. Camp
High School Mission Trip | New York, NY | August 5th – 12th 2017

What is C.L.U.E. Camp?
Our High School mission team will travel to New York City to help create quality, Christ-reflective, fun experiences for children in New York City. C.L.U.E. Camp (Children Living the Urban Experience) occur in 2 separate locations – one in Midtown Manhattan/Hell’s Kitchen at Metro Baptist Church and the other in Crown Heights, Brooklyn at Greater Restoration Baptist Church. Each campsite comes with its own unique character, cultural diversity, and set of 40+ children in grades 1-6. CLUE Camp’s Mission is “To show Christ’s love and teachings to children and youth by providing a safe, stable, encouraging and fun environment while engaging mission teams in life-changing service in an urban context.”

QUICK FACTS
Our team will partner with local staff to lead a day camp for inner city children living in low income neighborhoods in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Second Baptist will be working with Emerywood Baptist in High Point, NC on this trip. Our entire group will stay in the dorms at Metro Baptist Church but will be split into two teams, one serving in Manhattan and the other in Brooklyn each day. Our 2 teams will worship on Sunday at a church near their respective campsite on Sunday followed by an afternoon orientation. Our teams will lead camp Mondays through Thursdays, worship at their camp site on Sunday, and have a free day. Evenings are free for our group to explore the city, prepare for the next day, and have some group devotion / recap time. We will travel by train to NYC, and travel by foot and subway around the city throughout the week.

WHO
Students who have completed 9th grade through completed 12th grade.

COMMITMENT TO PREPARATION
One of the most wonderful aspects of CLUE Camp is the opportunity it provides for us to creatively and uniquely plan and lead camp, bringing our own spark and reflecting our group’s nature to urban children. Because of the nature of mission work we are doing, students going on the trip must commit to thorough training & planning prior to arriving in NYC. We are responsible for planning nearly every aspect of camp for these children. A curriculum including summer theme, Bible verses, guidelines, and ideas is provided, but the creativity and activity preparation is on us! We have the freedom to come up with activities, crafts, games, skits, etc. that work with the assigned theme. We will also spend time learning about the communities and churches we will be working in and with. This will not just be a mission trip, but a cultural immersion where issues like urban living, poverty, homelessness, and cultural sensitivity will be introduced.

COST
The cost of the trip is $250.00 / person for all High school students. A significant portion of the total cost of this trip has been paid for out of designated missions accounts and other funds. This will cover most of the costs for the week. Extra Money needed for 4 meals; 2 on travel days & 2 Friday in the city + souvenir money

REQUIRED FORMS
Once our team is formed, each participant will have to submit a 2BC Student Ministries General Permission Form (below) as well as a background check and volunteer application from Metro Baptist Church. Those will be available later. These forms are required of all participants.

ATTENDANCE AT MISSION TRIP PLANNING RETREAT
All students will be required to attend a planning retreat designed to provide an intensive orientation to camp policies, locations, themes and curriculum, as well as allow for collective brainstorming, organization and team building. We will be joined by Emerywood Baptist Church at Second Baptist the weekend of May 19-21. This is required. If you cannot attend this retreat, please talk to Dane ASAP. Some special considerations may be made, but those will be made at the discretion of the Student Minister.
