 Preschool

2BC Kids are a valued part of God’s Kingdom!

We desire to train children according to God’s word, as we rise in the morning, share experiences during the day, and go to bed at night.

Second Baptist Church seeks to provide an inviting, comfortable, and exciting atmosphere for families to raise their children together within the family that makes up the church, the body of Christ.

God is alive and active in families today, just as He was in families found in the stories we read in the Bible. Through these stories we learn that God loves us, desires a relationship with us, and has a plan and purpose for our lives.

Come and share the love of Christ, in fellowship with one another!

Music Ministry on Wednesday Nights

Through Wee Praise, birth through age 2 with an adult, learn to become life-long worshipers of God and to develop their musical talents to the Glory of God. (5:00 & 6:45 p.m.)

Sunday School

We have classes for children, infants through grade 5. Infants through Pre-K children meet in the Preschool Buildings.

You get to….

  • Play for an hour;
  • Know our youngest Second Family members;
  • Connect with your spouse or friend;
  • Give the gift of spiritual nurturing to another family;
  • Know that you helped a child come to know Jesus!

Everyone seeking to work with preschoolers, children, or youth must be involved in Safe at Second, the protection process of Second Baptist Church.  Each individual must complete the Safe at Second Protection Process.  The information is required to maintain an environment where a person’s past will not hinder the ministry in carrying out its mission in a safe, fun and productive way.

 Familiy Dedication

Contact Katie Vance Lucas for more information about the Family Dedication Services at Second.

The commitment of parents to partner with God and with the church in raising their children in a Christian home is a time for celebration.  Our Family Dedication Service is an opportunity for parents to publicly promise to seek God’s will for their children and to instruct them in the ways of the Lord, to teach them His Word, and to talk with them about faith in Jesus as Savior when they reach an age of spiritual understanding.  Family Dedication is not only a spiritual dedication of the family to grow the child within the ways of the Lord; it is also a commitment of the Family of Faith at Second Baptist to become lifelong partners with each family dedicated.  We commit to provide prayer support, assistance in Bible teaching and opportunities, facilities and people through which children can enter into a fullness of Christian faith.

Family Dedications are held in May and October. Prior to the Dedication Service parents are required to attend a Dedication Class. The class provides an opportunity for parents to understand what will occur at the service and how the church will partner with each family as they grow spiritually.

 Children’s Music

Children’s Choirs

For children as early as infants, Second Baptist Church provides a place for them to begin their musical training in Wee Praise. Wee Praise meets on Wednesdays, at 5:00 and 6:30 PM.

For children, preschool through grade five, that opportunity takes place on Wednesday evenings from 6:20 through 6:55 p.m. To further develop sight reading skills, third grade children may take advantage of a Chime Choir and fourth and fifth grade children can be a part of the Children’s Handbell Choir, all meeting at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Handbells

Handbell training is available beginning with the Chime Choir and continues with Children’s Handbell Choir.  Generally, membership is open during the fall for children.

Fine Arts Academy

Qualified Christian professional instructors teach lessons in piano, violin, and guitar.

 Next Generations

2020 Vision: Next Generations

Our engaging and relevant ministry to next generations fosters a confidence, life-long relationship with Jesus Christ.

Fulfilling Your Pledge

We are so blessed to have church members so vitally interested in the breadth of our church missions and operations. Our new Children’s Ministry Building opened December 4, 2016 and we could not be more excited about the current Children’s Ministry opportunities and dreams for the future! If you’d like to fulfill your pledge or give towards this project, you may send your check to Griendora McDowell, financial administrator, noting on the memo line that it is a contribution to the Next Generations Building Fund. She may also assist you if you wish to contribute in other ways (transfer stock, charitable bequest, etc.).
